Finding awesome vegan dishes is one thing — but what about the extras? Things like butter, mayo, cheese substitutes, etc. Here are some of the products that we love. They taste as close to the real thing as possible. Of course, nothing tastes exactly like real dairy products…but give your taste buds a chance to adjust. Once you become aware of what dairy actually is and the process it takes to end up as food, you won’t think twice about trying a plant-based version instead!
I will continuously update this page as I find new products and brands I like – so keep checking back for more.
Miyokos is definitely not cheap (I paid 12 dollars for this) BUT I will treat myself to this brand here and there because holy smokes – it’s unbelievably good. The smoked farmhouse is by far the best flavor I’ve had. Dante and I toasted an everything bagel, spread the smoked farmhouse on it, and then melted a piece of chao “cheese” & we were in heaven!!! It’s a high-quality, limited ingredient cashew vegan cheese substitute that you MUST try!
This Earth Balance olive oil, plant based mayo is fantastic… and I don’t feel like crap eating (like I always did with regular mayo). YES- that’s Gavin in the background yelling that he loves it too!
We have tried several cheese alternatives but nothing compares to this coconut-based brand: Chao. I enjoy a piece of this “cheese” with crackers, a slice on a sandwich or even a grilled cheese. There’s two other flavors – coconut herb and tomato cayenne. Both are delicious!
We enjoy both of these yogurt alternatives! Gavin approved too 🙂
I LOVE the Kite Hill brand – especially this almond-based cream cheese! There’s a chive flavor too (awesome for cracker spreads). Be sure to check out Kite Hill yogurts as well!
Yes, these are about $7 or $8 a pint but it is SO SO SO worth it!! I can not say enough good things about Luna & Larry’s coconut-based ice-cream. There’s a variety of flavors too. This stuff is seriously better than any dairy ice cream I’ve ever had. It’s a MUST try!
Earth Balance Butter is one item that took no time for me to adjust to. This seriously tastes no difference than real butter (in my opinion.)
If you’re into spice, this chickpea-based mayo is on point! Awesome ingredients too. Great for sandwiches, dips, or any recipe that calls for chipotle mayo.
I don’t drink coffee much anymore, but for those who enjoy flavored creamer with a good cup of joe, this stuff is delicious!
