It wouldn’t feel like Memorial Day Weekend without frying up some classic carrot dogs! (I know, this sounds ridiculous but seriously, we love them!) I made them last year and my dad (the meat-loving guy at the time), fell in love. I knew I was on to something when he said “I would eat these instead of hot dogs any day!)
There are many carrot dog recipes out there but this is the one that works for us. I found this recipe on One Green Planet – I fry mine on the stove top but a grill will do too! Please keep in mind that boiling and then marinating for a few hours before frying is required. Be sure to plan ahead if making!
Dress it just as you would a normal hot dog and it really feels as if you’re eating one (except a thousand times healthier and no animals harmed!) Give it a try at your next BBQ. One thing is for sure…they definitely make for a great conversation piece! 🙂
4 large carrots, peeled
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce or liquid aminos
2 tablespoons agave nectar
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Peel carrots and cut off ends.
Boil them until a fork goes through them. Be sure not to over boil so they fall apart.
Once done, run under cold water.
Create the marinade by mixing all the ingredients together.
Soak the carrots for at least 4 hours in the marinade, more if you would like.
Rotate them after a couple hours.
When ready, fry them in a frying pan with a small amount of oil until browned on all sides.
